Steam Breaks Records with 34 Million Users Online at Once in 2024
Steam has once again proven its dominance in the PC gaming world by reaching a new milestone of 34 million concurrent users, a first in its 20-year history. This achievement not only cements Valve’s platform as the leading PC gaming storefront but also showcases its continuous growth in the face of stiff competition.
Despite efforts from competitors like Epic Games Store, Steam’s user base has swelled to impressive numbers early into 2024. On March 2, the platform hit a peak of 34,298,950 concurrent users, surpassing last year’s record of 32 million. This significant growth highlights Steam’s resilience and appeal among gamers worldwide.

This year, Steam has been the go-to platform for major releases such as Palworld and Helldivers 2, with Palworld becoming the platform’s second-biggest game by concurrent players. Additionally, the introduction of the Steam Deck has played a crucial role in attracting millions to the platform, offering a simpler PC gaming experience that appeals even to console gamers.
Among the 34 million users, over 11 million were actively engaged in games when the record was set, demonstrating the wide array of titles Steam offers to cater to diverse gaming tastes. From Elden Ring to Baldur’s Gate 3, Steam continues to be at the center of the PC gaming universe.
