A Must watch Wholesome Anime That Feels Surprisingly Relatable!

Uncle’s Obsession with Cute Things (Ojisan wa Kawaii Mono ga Osuki) is easily one of the cutest anime to come out this season so far!

Well, if you haven’t checked out yet here’s my full review to go through before starting your next favourite anime.

As said, it’s the cutest anime of this season. Way beyond its adorable characters and wholesome comedy, it has a surprisingly relatable story about genuinely accepting the things we love from the heart.

What’s Anime About?

The story revolves around Mitsutaka Oji, an office worker in his 40s who seems mature, sophisticated, and professional. But behind his serious personality lies a secret.

And one thing I totally relate to is that he’s absolutely obsessed with cute things!Especially Pugtaro, an adorable pug mascot he absolutely adores. From collecting merchandise to surrounding himself with cute things at home, Oji has a completely different persona when he’s enjoying his favorite character.

However, he’s determined to keep this side of himself hidden from his colleagues and the people around him for some reason.

Things become even more interesting when his nephew Masumi moves in with him, making it increasingly difficult to protect his secret.What makes the anime entertaining is how even the simplest situations become hilarious because Oji is constantly worried about someone will know his secret obsession for cute things.

What Makes This Anime So Charming?

One of my favorite things about the anime is the portrayal of Oji’s outward personality and his inner thoughts.

On the outside, he seems composed and a dependable adult, which he actually is but internally, he’s just someone who wants to gush over adorable things!

The story also has a diverse range of characters with their own personalities and interests, making the show more entertaining than simply watching Oji try to hide his collection.I particularly enjoy how the comedy comes from everyday situations rather than exaggerated drama.

The characters’ reactions, awkward misunderstandings, and Oji’s attempts to maintain his image make the premise genuinely funny.

And of course, Pugtaro adds another level of cuteness to the entire experience! It’s just so cute and magical you need to watch the Pugtaro story as in the outro.

Why I Find It So Relatable:

I’ve always loved anime and collecting cute things, so I could immediately relate to this story.

Back when I was in college, anime wasn’t as popular as it is today. People sometimes considered me childish for watching it, but that never stopped me! Haha.

I even used to watch anime during my college breaks, so everyone pretty much knew about my obsession.

Unlike Oji, I never really hid my interests, but I understand why some people might feel uncomfortable sharing theirs, especially when they’re surrounded by people who don’t understand them.

And that’s what makes this anime feel so personal for me. I know there might be a lot of people who would really relate to the character as well in their own way.

My Thoughts So Far:

What I appreciate most about Uncle’s Obsession with Cute Things is that it focuses on an adult protagonist whose everyday life becomes unexpectedly entertaining because of his secret hobby.

It’s refreshing to watch a slice-of-life comedy that explores adulthood through something as simple as collecting cute merchandise.

The balance between humor, adorable moments, and relatable emotions makes it an enjoyable comfort watch. I’m especially looking forward to seeing how Oji’s relationships develop and whether he’ll become more comfortable expressing his interests with everyone around him.For now, it’s definitely one of my favorite wholesome anime of the season!

Final Thoughts:

I think having something in life that genuinely makes you happy is enough, even if others don’t understand it. You don’t always have to explain your interests or share them with everyone. Sometimes, enjoying your own little world is all that matters.

Growing older doesn’t mean you have to outgrow the things you love.

And that’s what makes Uncle’s Obsession with Cute Things such a charming watch.
