PlayStation ‘Gravity Rush 2’ Kitten Ad is Nothing Short of Brilliant
In 1687, Sir Isaac Newton published Principia, which hypothesizes the inverse-square law of universal gravitation. Although Newton’s theory has been superseded by the Einstein’s general relativity, most modern non-relativistic gravitational calculations are still made using Newton’s theory – except, maybe for Sony’s jaw-droppingly spectacular weird and wonderful commercial, for their brand new PS4 game Gravity Rush 2. Unfolding as a series of comedic and somewhat frightening events in Newtonian physics, the four-minute ad lends new meaning to the phrase “spatial geometry.” It features two sisters and a small, gravity defying kitten that keeps the audience in weightless suspension while it wreaks havoc on their apartment via some aerial acrobatics. Thematically it’s a brilliant tribute to Gravity Rush 2 and one of the best ads I’ve seen all year. It is exhilarating film-making, engineered with dizzying invention, and it combines commanding 3D digital effects and innovative point of view camera work – with a surprisingly soulful touch. Watch the ad below. Enjoy!
