The Video Game Community Comes Together to Celebrate St Patricks Day

Here’s a fact you may not know but I- dear reader- am actually from an Irish heritage. In fact, my background is almost entirely Irish but both (yes, BOTH) of my parents were adopted and ended up being brought over here to good old Blighty as babies and so here I am, an Irish soul in the UK. That being said, I never celebrate St Patricks Day and I usually tend to forget what day it’s on. This year though, various video games and their respective companies made me remember that today is in fact St Paddy’s day, so let’s take a look at some of  video game related Internet posts celebrating that good ole Irish charm.

World of Warcraft’s official Twitter account posted this picture of a treasure chest at the end of a rainbow to celebrate the day with the caption “May your buffs outnumber the shamrocks that grow.” Beautifully inspiring stuff.

Nintendo went the marketing route with their St Patricks Day post, posting a bunch of green themed Nintendo merchandise in the shape of a four leaved clover on their Twitter account. Luigi, Link and Yoshi are the main green characters to take the stage here. I can’t help but feel a little like I’m being persuaded to buy Nintendo products with this post thought. The post just screams, “Don’t forget to buy some Nintendo merch this St Patricks Day folks!”

You may remember that last year, a fan-made Sonic the Hedgehog character- by the name of Irish the Hedgehog- became somewhat canon when the official Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube channel posted some official artwork of the fan character with voiceover from well-known Irish YouTuber Jacksepticeye. Well, this year Irish is back in a lovely piece of art from the Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account alongside green eagle character Jet from the Sonic Riders game. Seriously though Sega, bring Irish into the Sonic games and let Jacksepticeye voice him again. It’s what the world needs.

Some places are offering special deals to celebrate St Patrick’s Day too. Twitter account Cheap Ass Gamer (got to love that name) posted a link to a sale being held for the occasion over on Good Smile US.

And some companies are offering their own deals too. Skybound Games– the publishers who saved The Walking Dead: The Final Season when it was shut down mid production due to the sudden closure of Telltale Games- are offering a 15% to 30% sale for two days only (the 17th to the 19th) so make sure you go and get your very own Disco Broccoli while you can. Because why would you not want a Disco Broccoli?

And last but not least, a little self-promotion with our very own St Patricks Day Tweet! Luigi is all of us as he forgets that it is St Patricks Day but still wears green and acts like this was his intention all along. Real smooth, Luigi.

Happy St Patricks Day to all of our readers!
