Nintendo Happy with One 30 Million Seller Every Few Years
Nintendo’s renowned designer Shigeru Miyamoto has shared the company’s strategy for measuring success in the gaming industry. According to Miyamoto, Nintendo aims to have a game that sells over 30 million units every three to five years. This approach is a significant indicator of success for the gaming giant.
Nintendo has been a dominant force in the gaming industry. The company boasts the best-selling console and a robust lineup of first-party games. Miyamoto emphasized that selling 1 million units is not considered a significant success for Nintendo. Instead, the company targets major hits that can sell 30 million units or more.

Miyamoto stated that a game reaching 30 million sales fulfills Nintendo’s criteria for a big hit. He acknowledged that not all releases are expected to achieve this milestone, but having one such success every few years is crucial. Nintendo’s track record supports this strategy, with several games surpassing the 30 million mark.
