โEven if itโs used a little, itโs fineโ: Demon Slayer Star Shrugs Off AI Threat
“Miyano’s legacy lives in every word he breathes into a role.”
Do you think the world that is shifting towards the trend of using AI can also be the reason that your beloved voice actors’ charismatic voices will also get replaced? If not replaced, but can be by AI?
Well, one of the renowned veteran Japanese voice actors, Mamoru Miyano, answered these questions in a recent interview reported via Yahoo Japan and CBR.
But first, let’s discuss Mamoru Miyano, how his words can influence so many people, including artists and audiences, in detail.
As mentioned, Mamoru Miyano is a voice actor known as the voice of well-written and beloved characters such as Doma in Demon Slayer and Chrollo in Hunter x Hunter, and other shows as well, including Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, To Be Hero X, and Ouran High School Host Club.
Furthermore, he is a well-known artist and fan-favourite voice for decades, so his thoughts and words are way more crucial than anyone can assume.
Moreover, he was asked to put his thoughts on the unauthorised use of AI in the field of voice acting and whether this technology would replace voice actors.
In response to the questions, he boldly stated, “Go ahead and do it,” he said. “Even if it’s used a little, it’s fine.”
But he clearly mentioned that voice actors are irreplaceable. Sure, it can create a voice, but it can never add to the emotional depth of that character in any way.
Voice Acting Isn’t Just Sound: It’s Storytelling with Soul:

Mamoru Miyano beautifully quoted that voice acting is not just about having a proper and sophisticated voice, but it’s about performing the characters with soul.
Miyano has worked for over a decade in the industry, giving voice to a diverse range of characters, whether they’re coming from anime, movies, or video games, and he understands better than anyone how much strength and work is needed to bring characters to life.
Things like emotion, timing, and real human feeling are irreplaceable, no matter how much a machine advances. Voice acting is not just mere reading work; it’s about being one with the character, understanding their feelings, and nicely portraying them with your voice.
As he is currently working on his latest projects, including the stylized sci-fi anime Lazarus, his belief is now firmer after working on this project, because a character like Lazarus needs more real acting skills than just a flexible voice to take on the character.
Hence, he says there’s a clear line and boundaries to how much a machine (artificial intelligence) can do, and to justify any character, you have to use emotions and even your heart, which AI is unable to do.
Surely, it can entertain, support, and amuse, but replacing human voice in a character is like replacing the soul from a body.

Why Mamoru Miyano’s Anime Legacy Is Irreplaceable by AI:

Mamoru Miyano is currently working on six anime, including the emerging popular title Lazarus. His consistency and work ethic are appreciated by numerous fans around the world.
As mentioned, he has also had a huge impact on fans because he has given voices to some crucial characters in renowned shows like Hunter x Hunter and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
Even though the Hunter x Hunter anime often gets delayed in production, he has still become an irreplaceable asset to the show and in the minds of fans. This influence can never be created by AI.
So, believe in the words of Mamoru Miyano, if he is saying that he can’t be replaced by AI, then it’s not just words but a reality.
