NXpress Nintendo Podcast #157: ‘Tetris 99,’ ‘Yoshi’s Crafted World’ and Video Game Habits

Published

on

This week on the NXpress Nintendo Switch Podcast we start by reviewing Tetris 99, which combines the tried-and-true puzzle gameplay with the particular blend of mayhem from the battle royale genre. A free-to-download game for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, this block-placing puzzler is perhaps not the first way gamers expected Nintendo to take on the battle royale genre, but some might argue it’s one of the best. In another week with strange tangents, this review somehow leads into a heated argument of whether or not NES games stand the test of time.

In our main event, we discuss our individual gaming habits, including our preference for purchasing either digital or physical copies, as well as how many indie games we each play on a regular basis. In between all of this, Patrick has nothing but great things to say about Degrees of Separation, a puzzle platformer where cooperation is built into every move. From the sounds of it, this might just be his favourite game so far this year. It’s another jam-packed show this week, so sit back, relax, and get ready for some more Nintendo love!

The NXpress is a weekly podcast hosted at NXpresspodcast.com in which we discuss all things Nintendo. We stay clear from in-depth game strategies and keep things light. There’s plenty of nostalgia and feedback that will resonate with vintage game collectors; meanwhile modern games are sprinkled in and each week our show revolves around a central theme.
