6 Years Later, Haikyu!! Returns in the Last Way Fans Expected

It’s been Six years since Haruichi Furudate brought the masterpiece amongst us the Haikyu!!

Unfortunately, the manga comes to an end by now, but the good news is that our beloved volleyball series is making its comeback in an unexpected way.

Instead of only focusing on continuing the journey of Hinata and Kageyama’s as a best volleyball player it’s releasing with a brand-new manga sequel.

The manga ended in July 2020 after showing the long journey of Shoyo Hinata’s from an inexperienced volleyball player to becoming Japan’s most promising athletes.

But since then, there were no updates on getting any more updates on the show and fans have continued to hope for more content from the world of Haikyu!!

Now, finally the dreams of every Haikyu fan are coming true, but perhaps not the one many expected.

Haikyu!! Is Returning With a Special Manga Release:

As said, the comeback of Haikyu is not what we all expected because it’s going to be in the form of Jump Character Remix, a special two-volume release scheduled for September.

So, instead of narrating the entirely new story, the volume focuses more on memorable moments from Haikyu!!, bringing fans back to some of the series’ most iconic characters, matches, and emotional moments that we already watched and adored!!

The release mostly focuses on celebrating the history of the series. It will showcase the updated presentation elements, including new color pages and improved printing, giving longtime readers an opportunity to experience familiar moments in a new format that they haven’t experienced till now.

So while fans are not going to get the continuation of Hinata and Kageyama’s professional careers in these volumes, the release offers something that will still hold our heart in place, a chance to relive the journey that made Haikyu!! one of the most popular sports manga of its generation.

But the Anime Story Isn’t Finished Yet:

The major news for anime fans is Haikyu!! still has bigger animated projects on the way.Moreover we have an official announcement that Haikyu!!: The Movie — VS The Little Giant is already scheduled to be released in 2027. The film will adapt the highly anticipated Spring High Nationals quarterfinal between Karasuno and Kamomedai, bringing Hinata face-to-face with Korai Hoshiumi.

One of the most anticipated matches till now. Fans know what I mean.

This matchup is a really crucial one because Hoshiumi represents another short guy but with an exceptionally talented volleyball player who has been compared to the legendary “Little Giant” that has inspired our main hero, Hinata as well. Which makes the upcoming film much more than another volleyball match.

It brings Hinata’s long-running dream into direct competition with someone who resembles him in both stature and ambition. Well, the face off will be deadly insane to watch for sure.

A Second Story Is Getting Its Own Anime:

Perhaps the most surprising part of the announcement is that Haikyu!! isn’t putting every remaining match into a single movie.

A separate special anime titled Haikyu!!: The Place Where Monsters Go is also scheduled for 2027 as well.The major focuses of the series will be on another Spring High quarterfinal: Fukurodani Academy vs. Mujinazaka High School.

Which says that fans will get to see Kotaro Bokuto take center stage as Fukurodani faces one of its toughest opponents. On the other side of the net is Wakatsu Kiryū, another well known player called to be the country’s elite aces.

The two matches take place during the same stage of the tournament, allowing the special anime to go beyond Karasuno’s court giving more to fans with a wonderful line up of matches to watch.

Why This Return Is So Unexpected

When a hugely successful manga ends, fans often expect a sequel, spin-off, or completely new chapter of the story.Haikyu!! is taking a different route.

Haikyu!! Is not only reopening its manga’s story, the franchise is combining nostalgia and new animation projects together in an unexpected way.

The special Jump Character Remix volumes look back at the manga, while the 2027 movie and anime special continue adapting the remaining major parts of the story for viewers.

For longtime fans, that makes the return feel less like a traditional revival and more like a celebration of everything that made Haikyu!! special.And there’s plenty still to look forward to.
