Neil Druckmann Clarifies Misquote by Sony Over Redefining Gaming Comment
Naughty Dog co-studio head Neil Druckmann recently clarified a statement from a Sony interview. The interview suggested that Druckmann claimed the developer’s next game could “redefine mainstream perceptions of gaming.” However, Druckmann took to social media to address the misquote, asserting that his words were heavily edited, causing a loss of context and intent.
In the Sony interview, Druckmann was quoted as saying, “I’m eager to see how this new game resonates, especially following the success of The Last of Us, as it could redefine mainstream perceptions of gaming.” This statement quickly made headlines, but Druckmann clarified that this was not his exact wording. He explained, “In editing my rambling answers, some of my words, context, and intent were unfortunately lost.”
Druckmann emphasized that his actual statement focused on his excitement for Naughty Dog’s new project and its fresh direction. He stated, “I’m not only excited for this game that we’re making, and it’s something really fresh for us, but I’m also excited to see how the world reacts to it.” He highlighted the broader appreciation for gaming and its evolving perception in society.

While Druckmann acknowledged the enthusiasm for The Last of Us Part 3, he also expressed a desire to explore new ideas with Naughty Dog. He mentioned Sony’s support for the studio’s creative endeavors, ensuring fans that the next project would be revealed closer to its release to avoid past issues with early announcements.
This clarification comes as Naughty Dog remains tight-lipped about its upcoming projects, leaving fans eager to see what the acclaimed developer has in store next.
