Goomba Stomp’s Hall of Fame is reserved for only those Nintendo titles that can be called absolute classics. Chosen by the crew of the NXpress Nintendo Podcast, these bite-sized capsule reviews reflect what we’ve discussed on the podcast over the past six months. Look for more entries every 25 episodes we record.

When we ask our team what their favorite SNES games are, Chrono Trigger is usually mentioned on the top five. If you ask me, Chrono Trigger is the best game on the system and, in my opinion, Square Enix’s greatest accomplishment. While games like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest are popular enough to be household names, Chrono Trigger features one of the greatest stories in any video game, with so many twists and turns in the plot, few, if any, of which are telegraphed ahead of their reveal. It also has a soundtrack that has been hailed as one of the best ever made and now a five-disc, 75-track album has been released that pays tribute to its legacy.

Chrono Trigger is simply one of the most charming, endearing, and most fun role playing games. Everything from the script, sound, graphics, characters and the time traveling mechanic is so perfectly realized that decades later, there are few games in the same league as this masterpiece. – Ricky D
