Apex Legends Faces Negative Review Bombing on Steam Over Battle Pass Changes
Apex Legends has become the target of a significant review bombing campaign on Steam following recent changes to its battle pass system. EA and Respawn Entertainment’s announcement to alter the battle pass structure has sparked outrage among the game’s player base, leading to thousands of negative reviews.
The new battle pass model, set to debut in August with Season 22, will introduce two short 60-tier passes per season, replacing the single 110-tier pass. While Respawn claims that the new passes will offer the same number of legendary skins with less filler content, players are displeased with the removal of the option to save up in-game currency, known as Apex Coins, to purchase future passes. The new system mandates a direct payment of $9.99 USD for premium tiers, eliminating the previous in-game currency substitution.

This change has not been well-received. Many players view it as a blatant attempt to increase revenue, rather than a move to enhance player experience. As a result, Apex Legends has seen over 1,300 negative reviews in a single day, causing its recent review score to plummet to “Mixed” on Steam.
EA and Respawn have yet to respond to the backlash. The community hopes the developers will reconsider the changes to avoid further alienation of the player base.
