Sony Set to Launch PlayStation Mobile Store for Free Games
Sony is gearing up to enter the lucrative mobile gaming market, which is valued at over $100 billion. As reported by TweakTown, the company has posted a job listing for a software engineer for PlayStation Studios Mobile, signaling its plans to develop a new platform for free-to-play mobile games.
Former Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan had expressed his vision in 2022 for PlayStation games to be available on PC and mobile by 2025. This move aligns with that vision, indicating Sony’s commitment to expanding its gaming ecosystem beyond traditional consoles.
The recruited mobile platform architect will lead the design and development of this new PlayStation mobile game platform. They will work closely with internal teams to ensure these mobile games connect seamlessly to PlayStation services, maintaining the company’s high-quality standards. This integration will offer PlayStation users a consistent gaming experience across multiple platforms, including consoles and mobile devices.

The mobile gaming market is becoming an important battleground for major gaming companies. Microsoft has also announced the launch of an Xbox mobile game app store in July, intensifying competition between the two giants.
Sony’s new mobile gaming platform aims to bring several benefits to users. Players will have access to PlayStation franchises on the go, enjoy seamless integration with PlayStation services, and potentially experience cross-platform play. This will provide flexibility, convenience, and a consistent user experience across devices.
