MultiVersus Full Release Scheduled for May by Warner Bros.
Warner Bros. has revealed the official launch date for MultiVersus, the eagerly awaited free-to-play fighting game. This game brings together a diverse cast from Warner Bros. Discovery’s franchises, such as DC Comics, Game of Thrones, Looney Tunes, and Cartoon Network.
Following a successful open beta launch in June 2022, which saw the game become Warner Bros.’ biggest Steam release with over 150,000 concurrent players, MultiVersus faced a steep decline, losing 99% of its player base by February 2023. This led to the temporary closure of the open beta in June 2023, in anticipation of the game’s full release.
In preparation for its official release, the game has undergone significant upgrades. The developers have transitioned to Unreal Engine 5 for improved graphics, enhanced the netcode for smoother online play, and introduced new characters and stages.
A notable addition is a new PvE mode, broadening the game’s appeal to include both competitive and cooperative play styles. MultiVersus is set to launch on May 28 across multiple platforms, including PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

This launch is part of Warner Bros. Games’ strategic shift towards “games as a service,” aiming to offer continuous content updates in response to the fluctuating AAA game market. This strategy also includes withdrawing games published by Adult Swim Games from retail outlets.
With its full release, MultiVersus aims to recapture the attention of its initial audience and attract new players with its updated features, expanded roster, and enhanced gameplay experience.
