Ubisoft Plans New Driver Projects After Long Break
Ubisoft has exciting news for fans of the Driver series. The gaming giant has revealed that it is actively working on new projects related to the franchise. This comes despite the series being dormant since the release of Driver: San Francisco in 2011.
In a recent interview, Ubisoft confirmed that several new projects are in the pipeline for the Driver series. These projects could include a new game and a live-action adaptation. Ubisoft’s CEO, Yves Guillemot, hinted that these plans go beyond different adaptations, suggesting that fans might soon see a new Driver game.

The last game in the series, Driver: San Francisco, was praised for its unique “Shift” mechanic, which allowed players to take control of any car on the map. This innovation left fans eager for more, and Ubisoft seems ready to deliver.

The potential return of the Driver series comes at a time when the arcade racing genre needs a revival. Ubisoft’s commitment to revamping the franchise is promising, especially since the genre has stagnated in recent years. Fans are eager for a fresh storyline and new gameplay experiences.
While Ubisoft is currently focused on major releases like Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the company has shown a willingness to revisit beloved IPs. With remakes of Assassin’s Creed and Prince of Persia already in progress, a new Driver game could be next.
