The Little Mermaid Reboot Drops First Look, And It’s Not What You Expected
A new reboot version of the Little Mermaid anime is about to be released, and before that, we are getting a glimpse of the series.
The anime is titled Goodbye, Lara and was first announced in late May 2024 with a short teaser. The teaser showcased sketches, animation, and a bit of voice acting.
It was not a complete preview, but now a brand-new teaser, over two minutes long, has been released, giving a better look at the first episode, which is set to come out this July.
Of course, this extended clip for the Little Mermaid anime reboot has created excitement among fans.
This New Anime, Goodbye, Lara, Gives The Little Mermaid a Stunning Makeover
Goodbye, Lara, new retelling of Little Mermaid by Kinema Citrus, was created to celebrate the auspicious 15th anniversary of the studio.
Our favourite classic Little Mermaid with fresh narrative by Hans Christian Andersen. The anime will be directed by Takushi Koide, who is well known for directing, key animation, and storyboarding.

Moreover some of Koide’s best work includes Bocchi the Rock!, Made in Abyss, Revue Starlight (consisting of the movie), and the recent Cardfight!! Vanguard overDress and will+Dress.
Furthermore, the story of the anime revolves around Lara, our mermaid princess who comes to the surface after 200 years and confidentiality meets a high school student.
Despite being warned to stay away from humans she becomes curious to know the world outside of water. She gets a potion made by the witch named Grace and goes looking for her soulmate.
The Anime History of The Little Mermaid Goes Back a Long Way
The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen has been narrated for an immense amount of time. An anime film inspired by Little Mermaid was released in 1975 by Toei Animation, Disney’s animated version, and one of the recent ones released was 2023 live-action movie starring Halle Bailey.
The main story of each adaptation is the story of a mermaid who likes to explore the world outside the water. Every piece has a unique touch to the story.
The plot explores the themes of finding yourself, true love, sacrifice, and feeling out of place in a different world, which is quite relatable to everyone. Who feels a bit curious to explore the world.
The best part of this anime is that this time it is set up in modern-day Japan. This setting of premise brings in a fresh perspective to the story and we get to how our little mermaid Lara lives in the new environment. I
t will definitely be a wonderful addition to watch if you are craving to watch something new with its classic nostalgic feelings intact to it.
Also the series already was popular even before its release as it gained around 150,000 views on the first episode’s trailer and over 2.5 million views on the teaser, which is what we call a good start for any series yet to come in.
