Ranking The Most Challenging Bosses in Dark Souls History
The Dark Souls trilogy developed by FromSoftware has introduced some of the best and toughest enemies and bosses in the game. The undefeatable bosses in the Dark Souls game are renowned to be among the most challenging enemies in the modern gaming world.
While some bosses have specific moves and power, fighting them for the first time can be really tougher than you can expect. Few bosses are harder to defeat than others, and the difficulty of battling them can also depend on the player’s character build (like any other game). But there are many possibilities of winning against them if you are serious about it.
So, if you are ready for an action pack gaming journey don’t miss this one and keep reading to make strategy beforehand for obvious victory.
15. Asylum Demon:
Location: Undead Asylum
Drops:
-Big Pilgrim’s Key
-Demon’s Great Hammer
-Humanity
First on our list is none other than one of the toughest dark soul bosses, Asylum Demon. You can find him towards the beginning of the game and in your adventure. But don’t worry even though he is big and strong you can defeat him just by following a few steps.
First at the beginning of the game if you start with the black firebombs, then use 4 or 5 to defeat him.
If he still stays then just, stay close to him, and make a circle around him, and dodge every attack of this boss. Then simply just watch out your moves and when he tries to jump, move away from him to avoid his area attack.
Just stay focused and keep on hitting him from behind, and he will definitely get defeated by your attacks.
When he goes down or loses he drops items like Humanity, souls, and if you are lucky you can get a chance to get a Demon’s Great Hammer but only if you meet him and defeat him for the first time in game.
14. Bell Gargoyles:
Location: Undead Parish
Drops:
-10,000 souls
-1 Twin Humanity
-Gargoyle Tail Axe
-Gargoyle Halberd
Second on our list is yet another one of the strongest dark soul bosses, Bell Gargoyles. They are often seen using big axes and fire attacks that can be brutal and inescapable. In the battlefield, you will discover one gargoyle attacking you first, then soon his partner joins in when the first one’s health gets lower.
You have to stay calm and keep dodging attacks from both of them or just use your shield to defend against their direct attacks on you. And keep a note that attacks like Magic and fire work really well against these kinds of enemies as you can hit them by not being closer to them. Now that you know how to attack, just focus on the low hp gargoyle first.
Then just keep a watch on for the fire-breathing one and use a heater shield to reduce damage of their attacks. Just don’t hide in alcoves because it gets too risky and if you are still struggling, use Humanity to summon support.
After a long fight when you finally defeat them, they drop some awesome rewards like souls, humanity, and sometimes unique weapons like the Gargoyle Tail Axe or Gargoyle Halberd.
And one more thing to keep a note of is to be careful not to fall off the roof during the fight with bell Gargoyles or your game will be over.
13. Iron Golem:
Location: Sen’s Fortress
Drops:
-1 Humanity
-40,000 souls
-1 Core of an Iron Golem
Next comes a giant, Iron Golem who is obviously big, and can slow your moves over him by his strong attacks. Undoubtedly he is one of the scariest bosses in dark souls.
If you’re a melee character, use a fast weapon like the Lightning Spear from Sen’s Fortress. Hit his legs quickly, especially if your weapon is enchanted with Gold Pine Resin.
Keep an eye on your surroundings – if you stun him, you can make him fall off a bridge for a quick victory.
Magic isn’t the best here, but if you use it, go for lightning spells. There’s an NPC you can summon near the fog door, and he’s super strong. Let him do most of the fighting, and the Iron Golem will be defeated easily.
Afterward, you get rewards like 1 Humanity, 40,000 souls, and the chance to buy the Iron Golem’s armour.
12. Ceaseless Discharge:
Location: Demon Ruins
Drops:
-Homeward Bone
-Humanity Humanity
Next up is an optional dark soul boss named Ceaseless Discharge and you can find him near the lava area past Quelaag’s Domain and above the Demon Ruins in the game.It certainly becomes more active when you pick up the armour and after taking dropped items at the end of a hall, the boss finally begins to move. To defeat him, use a fork placed within your path as a cover.
And unfortunately If you die and again get respawn, start running to this point to minimise damage of boss on you.
The boss has a fire breath attack and alongwith swinging tentacle attack. And don’t try to run away and stay close to the boss to provoke his tentacle attack, then again after taking enough damage go back to retreat on the location where you find the fork.
Just keep on using this technique. First Hit the tentacle, second let stamina recharge, and finally repeat until you defeat him.
And lastly, you can also trick the boss by letting him walk back to the place where he came from to get some space.
And the best part is there is also a glitch available near the fog entrance that can give you an easy victory over the boss but in future it may be fixed so do it as soon as possible.
11. Centipede Demon:
Location: Orange Charred Ring
Drops: Orange Charred Ring
Here comes another one of the popular dark soul bosses, Centipede Demon is also an optional boss and you can discover him before Lost Izalith under Quelaag’s Domain and the Demon Ruins. It has special attacks in his bag like long-range arm swipe, a close-range jump attack, and stomping feet definitely not an easy move to dodge.
First thing to note is that this dark soul boss is immune to fire, resistant to lightning and physical attacks, so the only way to defeat him is through magic. Yes you read that right.Just don’t stand too close or under this boss, as it can also grab and deal heavy damage upon you and can easily kill you.
The only way to win against him is by cutting off its tail that has a ring on it, but the twist is the tail can be grown again.
Another way to win against him is to begin the battle by running right to a larger area with a corpse of it. Try to stay close to its feet to make the fight easier for you. And here you will win the battle in the blink of an eye.
By defeating this dark soul boss you can get rewards like Orange Charred Ring and this special item allows you to walk on lava with nominal damage. Isn’t it great? I bet it is!
10. Capra Demon:
Location: Undead Burg
Drops:
-6,000 souls
-a Key to the Depths
-1 Humanity
-1 Homeward Bone
Next on our list is one of most fearsome dark soul bosses on our list that is Capra Demon. They mostly wield two Demon Great Machetes and hooked Ultra Greatswords that are made up of cast iron. The two demons themselves are pretty huge humanoids with four red-glowing eyes and a horned skull on the head.
Both the demons have a bone tail, and have open shoulders with blades and spines on them. They are often seen wearing a ragged skirt made of straw in the game.As their look suggests they are pretty much tough to defeat.
But if you gain victory over them you can get hands on these exclusive items like Capra Demon drops souls, a key, humanity, and some special items like Demon Great Machete. And If you successfully saved a sorcerer’s life, you can buy a magic shield to help you get hp during the battle.
Note: These battles with Capra demons can be nullified if you have a Master Key as it will show you an safest alternate route to Blighttown where you can avoid fighting the Capra demon.
9. Seath The Scaleless:
Location 1: The Duke’s Archives
Location 2: Crystal Cave
Drops: Moonlight Greatsword
Next up is another special boss in dark soul, Seath. In the start, it is destined to lose the fight in the first part of the game but after that, you expect to win against this powerful boss.
To claim victory over him you just need to break a crystal to make Seath moves weak. And keep watching his strong magic attacks and tail sweeps, but if your moves are great and you know when to hit then this challenge becomes a lot easier than expected.
8. Gwyn, Lord Of Cinder:
Location: the Kiln of the First Flame
Drops: Transposing Kiln
Gwyn, The Lord of Cinder, is the last and one of the toughest bosses to defeat in Dark Souls. He is said to be the dad of Gwynevere, the lady known for giving you the Lordvessel in game and Gwyndolin also one of the optional bosses in Anor Londo.
To defeat Gwyn, you need to have a control on Lord Souls from Bed of Chaos, The Four Kings, Gravelord Nito, and Seath the Scaleless. To get them you need to talk to Kingseeker Frampt in Firelink Shrine to get hands on the Lord Vessel, put the souls in, and Gwyn’s area opens for you.
Well, the fight with Gwyn is considered to be much easier compared to other battles. And if you are good at parrying, just use it against his attacks for an easy victory against him.
Unfortunately, If you don’t know how to do it, just wear Havel’s set, use a fire-resistant shield, and attack while blocking his moves. And finally after him, you will get Gwyn’s Soul.
7. Sanctuary Guardian:
Location: Sanctuary Garden
Drops:
-Guardian Soul
-Guardian Tail (if the tail is severed)
The Artorias of the Abyss DLC has four new bosses coming up in the game, and trust me they all are fun! You begin your journey by fighting one of the dark soul bosses that is the Sanctuary Guardian, a tough chimeric beast. Even though he is high-level, don’t try to sleep on him.
This Guardian boss can shoot electric blasts on you. Also they have poisonous tail sting, and top of that they can even fly, making newbie players feel a bit slow in their move. But defeating them is a true satisfaction trust me!
6. Four Kings:
Location: Abyss
Drops: Bequeathed Lord Soul Shard
Here comes the Four Kings, one of the dark soul bosses renowned for holding a part of Gwyn’s soul, and he is really hard to defeat.
This time the battle will be not just about your strength but also about your ability to judge distances. Yes, you read that right!
The battle between you and Four Kings takes place in the Abyss, a darkest place where the Kings move around like giant beasts.
Don’t get fooled by his name, you will soon realise that you are trapped in his projectile and surrounded. Just don’t lose your cool there. And you definitely win for sure.
5. The Bed Of Chaos:
Location: Lost Izalith
Drops: Lord Soul
Here comes our next dark soul toughest bosses to defeat The Bed Of Chaos. The Bed of Chaos is also said to be having a unique boss fight in the Dark Souls game and unlike other dark soul bosses, you don’t need to attack him directly like for others but other than that you have too many steps to defeat this beast.
The real enemy is located inside a huge structure and not the big scary body you see in front of you. You have to carefully discover your real enemy inside the gigantic structure, avoid deadly attacks, and the main part is you have to be cautious of the collapsing floor to reach and defeat the real boss inside the structure in the Lost Izalith.
4.Dragon Slayer Ornstein & Executioner Smough:
Location: Anor Londo
Drops:
-Leo Ring
-Soul of Ornstein (if Ornstein killed last)/Soul of Smough (if Smough killed last)
Next comes the dual bosses on our list, Smough and Ornstein and undoubtedly they are one of the toughest pairs known in Dark Souls, giving players a challenging atmosphere in their journey.
Well, what makes them so complex is how they work together like a team and if you beat one of them the other gets even more stronger. Yes you read that right.
So, you have to fight both the bosses at the same time and there is no going back, just navigate their moves truly, and think wisely before taking any decision and defeating any of them.
3.Manus, Father Of The Abyss:
Location: Chasm of the Abyss
Drops: Soul of Manus
Finally we are going to talk about the top 3 dark souls bosses, and here comes one of the godly level bosses on our list, Manus, Father Of The Abyss. Well, it is said that fighting with Manus in Dark Souls without summoning Sif by your side can be the biggest mistake of your life.
Because Manus’ infinite attacks and strong dark magic can make you cry out blood for real. Having a battle with Manus is not a kid play and without Sif’s help makes it even way harder than you can expect.
So, don’t be fooled or keep fooling around and take help and support to get benefits and easy defeat of Manus, Father of Abyss.
2.Artorias The Abysswalker:
Location: Oolacile Township
Drops: Soul of Artorias
On top 2 is dark soul boss, Artorias, a boss that is also loved and feared by players because he battles aggressively by using his quick sword moves and strong jumps, so you have to keep dodging his moves and by noting his timings.
What makes Artorias one of the most difficult bosses to defeat in game is his infinite attacks and on top of that you have to stop him from powering up because it can lead you to defeat. So defeating him is not easy and requires a really good strategy and skill set.
1.Black Dragon Kalameet:
Location: Royal Wood
Drops:
-Calamity Ring
-Obsidian Greatsword (if the tail is severed)
Now, comes the most popular and very hard boss to defeat in the game and this is none other,Black Dragon Kalameet. And why I’m saying he is super hard to defeat is because of his moves, he can fly, breath fire and has super duper strong physical attack that none can easily take down.
So there is no room for mistakes. You have to play like a pro and one mistake can lead you to be on your knees. Think wisely, dodge accurately and never stop thinking about your strategy to defeat him.
Wrapping Up:
So, we finally came to an end but your adventure is about to begin after this. Don’t hold back because heroes never lose. Keep building your skills and you will win for sure!
Keep gaming and thanks for reading!
