Concord Beta Struggles as Player Numbers Drop Below 50
The recent Concord beta faced a tough reception from gamers. The game, a 5v5 shooter, launched its beta phase to just over 1,000 players, which quickly dwindled to under 50 by the final day (thanks Tech4Gamers). These low numbers highlight significant challenges ahead of its official release.
Concord, developed by Firewalk Studios, initially seemed promising, but players soon found it lacking in originality and engaging gameplay. Many compared it unfavorably to existing free-to-play shooters, questioning its $40 price tag. This sentiment was reflected in the Steam player count, which peaked at about 1,200 but rapidly declined, with only 15 users remaining active towards the end.

While the beta had a more considerable audience on the PS5, the general trend of decreasing player numbers is expected to continue. The game struggled to retain interest due to its perceived lack of replayability and generic design. Critics also noted potential issues with microtransactions and battle passes upon release, further dampening enthusiasm.

Despite these setbacks, PlayStation and Firewalk Studios remain hopeful. They have scheduled another beta, starting tomorrow, to attract more players and gather additional feedback. Whether Concord can overcome these early hurdles and carve out a niche in the competitive shooter market remains to be seen. The game is set to release in late August, leaving little time to address these concerns.
