Rumor: Digital-Only Xbox Series X Launching This Summer
Microsoft is gearing up to release a new, digital-only version of its Xbox Series X console in June or July of this year. This update comes after leaks last year hinted at an “adorably all-digital” refresh for the Xbox Series X, planned for 2024. Despite initial uncertainty about the project’s future, it seems the plans are still on track.
As reported by Exputer, has claimed that this new version of the Xbox Series X will not only ditch the optical disc drive but will also boast an improved heatsink and an upgraded Nexus card. The console is expected to be white, contrasting with the current black color scheme of the Series X. However, it appears this revision will not include the more significant changes suggested by last year’s leak, such as a new cylindrical design or a refreshed controller.

Phil Spencer, Xbox’s head, has addressed concerns about moving away from physical media. He reassured that Microsoft remains supportive of physical games. However, he noted that the majority of Xbox customers now prefer digital purchases. Microsoft has confirmed it will share more Xbox hardware news this year, though it’s unclear if this will include the digital-only Xbox Series X.

This move reflects the industry’s gradual shift towards digital media, aligning with consumer preferences for digital game purchases. As we await official confirmation from Microsoft, the anticipation for this digital-only console continues to build.
