Even though the year is drawing near its end, we still have a caboodle of promising games scheduled to hit the shelves in 2024. We’ve selected the top 5 titles worthy of your attention (and dollars) together with the affiliate marketing networks provider Revenuelab.

  1. MechWarrior 5: Clans
MechWarrior 5: Clans Hands-off Preview - Xbox Tavern

Date: October 3

A new installment in the dreadnought battle robot saga will see the light in October. The game is a nostalgia ride that focuses on the invasion of the Clans for the first time since 1995. Of course, it’s not a standalone game, but rather an expansion, where you can refresh your gaming experience with the brand new mechanics:

  • Mechlab.
  • Hardpoint.
  • Omnipod.

They allow you to customize your mecha in a fashion most suitable for the current scenario. For example, you can sacrifice a specific weapon to enhance other stats of the fear-spreading goliath of a robot. As a freshly graduated Smoke Jaguar cadet, you will partake in the epic events of the Operation Revival. And since the game has a sprawling mod community, it is expected that other clans’ stories will also unfold before our eyes.

  1. Sonic X Shadow Generations

Date: October 25

The revamped classic — Sonic Adventure 2 — will go live in October as well. However, the remake isn’t just about giving a facelift to the visuals, animations, and physics. Actually, similar to Russian matryoshka, it has a whole different game housed in the main title.

We are talking about the adventures of the Shadow the Hedgehog. In the game, Sonic’s enigmatic rival gets a principally unique pallet of moves — among all else, he can even freeze time, which is beneficial for unleashing an attack or avoiding falling down a yawning chasm.

There is even a hub world — deserving the title of ShadowVerse — solely dedicated to Shadow and inspired by the Sonic Frontiers. So, next October you’ll get a chance to explore this dimension and challenge Black Doom. And of course hurl a few Chaos spears at him.

  1. Assassin’s Creed: Shadows

Date: November 15

The cosmopolitan Assassin’s Creed saga has been almost on every continent, in every country, and every historic era. Except for Japan. But this time, the injustice finally gets corrected! Welcome to Azuchi-Momoyama Japan torn by a civil war. It features a female shinobi Fujibayashi Naoe and a real Afro-samurai Yasuke who serves Oda Nobunaga — the “Great Unifier” of Japan.

While magically beautiful — probably it’s the most eye-pleasing AC title as of now — Shadows also adds a few long-awaited components to the gaming process. The most striking one is the prone stance. It looks like the guild of assassins took a masterclass from Naked Snake and finally learned how to crawl past the guards, which adds more stealthiness and excitement to the process.

Another intriguing addition is espionage. Sherlock Holmes-style you can organize a spy network — who probably should be paid with special earnable tokens — who can help you track down the targets or get some other intel. There are designated areas to which your spies should be dispatched to collect info. Perhaps, it was added to make side quests a tad easier, who knows.

  1. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

Date: December 9

The renowned professor of archeology returns to bash more Nazis over the heads with a shovel. It’s a cinematic adventure, produced exclusively for Xbox, PC, and GamePass. As one might expect, there will be poorly lit temples, perhaps infested with snakes, mysterious dungeons that shelter unimaginable treasures, and omnipresent Nazis, whose heads were made for clobbering.

Professor Indy is a unique character to play. He has his signature revolver, but using it isn’t always a good idea: it can trigger consequences that can lead to a disaster, like alarming the enemy and revealing your whereabouts. Instead, it’s your wits and fists you should rely on. And of course the legendary whip, which can help with a lot of stuff: from escaping a chase, to knocking down another ruffian standing in your way.

A major gameplay component is solving riddles, of which there is a plethora. In one of the stages, you need to find a way to redirect the sunbeams by readjusting mirrors. And yeah, it again leads to some sort of ancient booby trap, but the process is still worth it. To make the gameplay even more exciting, there is a system of Adventure Points, a Journal, and even disguise outfits that can be used for infiltration.

  1. Alien: Rogue Incursion
Alien: Rogue Incursion

Date: December 19

Alien: Rogue Incursion is a first-person shooter featuring xenomorphs and the eerie ambience of the Alien universe carefully constructed by the twisted genius of Hans Giger. But what makes it super immersive is that it’s a VR-title, so you can literally drown yourself in the sticky atmosphere of the space horror. Sounds enchanting, eh?

But while virtual reality is definitely a massive step closer to the genuine horror vibe of the movies, it also sets serious limitations. One of them: VR-games are still a niche that sometimes struggles for survival. So, it’s hard to predict how big the budget of the game will be — the studio has to spend as little as they can to profit on the sales that likely won’t be sensational in numbers. And, alas, the budget directly affects the overall quality.

As for the rest, it promises to be a classic alien adventure with the stomach-turning xenomorph larvae swarming everywhere. There will be a canonic Pulse rifle at your disposal, and the sci-fi decorations set on the uncharted planet Purdan where spine-chilling secrets are yet to be revealed.
