Tango Gameworks Faced Closure Despite Developing Two New Games
Tango Gameworks, known for popular games like Hi-Fi Rush and The Evil Within, was unexpectedly shut down during Microsoft’s recent restructuring. Despite fans’ disappointment and the studio’s impressive portfolio, new information reveals that Tango Gameworks had two unannounced games in development at the time of its closure.
According to Tsuyoshi Okugawa’s LinkedIn, a former programmer at Tango Gameworks, the studio was actively developing two new titles between 2023 and 2024. One of these projects might have been a sequel to Hi-Fi Rush, which was the highest-rated Xbox game last year, outperforming even major releases.
The closure of Tango Gameworks and other Bethesda studios has been attributed to Microsoft’s strategy of focusing on high-impact titles and reinvesting in long-standing franchises. Despite the promise shown by the new projects, Microsoft’s decision highlights the challenges studios face in the current gaming industry.

The news of these cancellations has been a significant blow to the industry, with many agreeing that producing great games is no longer enough to prevent studio closures. As the gaming landscape evolves, the focus on blockbuster franchises continues to shape the fate of many development studios.
