Star Wars Outlaws activities: Everything you can do as Kay Vess
Ubisoft’s Star Wars: Outlaws marks the studio’s first take on one of the world’s biggest franchises. While most media explored the adventures of the Jedi and their fight against the Sith, the French studio sets its sights on somewhere else in the Galaxy far far away. Rather than swinging a lightsaber and harnessing the Force, you are exploring on the boots of an outlaw, Kay Vess.
Kay’s role is not directly tied to the fight for the fate of the galaxy but on a much more personal but still sizable scale. Her duties are to herself and she aims to find her place in the vast universe. What is there to do in the unexplored sections of the Galaxy? There is plenty and here are some examples:
Casino gambling
One of the most striking additions to the Star Wars mythos is having full access to a casino setting. It was briefly featured in the movie The Last Jedi (2017) but they didn’t stay long and no medium explored it again other than a backdrop for tie-in video games. This time, you can place bets and win credits playing Kessel Sabacc with fellow outlaws and tavern visitors.
It’s not a full-scale casino, however. Besides Kessel Sabacc, there are no other mini-games resembling slot games like Fire Joker or table games like roulette. Kessel Sabacc is the closest you can get to poker following similar rules to Texas Hold’em. It’s not a strange addition to fans of Ubisoft because the company included poker in other properties like the Far Cry series.
Free roam exploration
If there’s one thing Ubisoft excels at, it would be their impressive work on crafting an enticing open world to roam. What makes this even more exciting is that you are exploring varieties of vast biomes in the Star Wars universe! Travel around on foot or hover across with a speeder bike. Bully the local wildlife or intercept Startrooper patrols. The world is yours to play around in.
You should also try dangerous escapades like chasing or getting chased by the infamous sandworms. that swim and burrow in the desert of Tatooine. They’re far from civilization so you won’t stumble upon them accidentally. Don’t miss the opportunity to ride your speeder by their side or try to get chased by them, however, because that’s an experience unique to Outlaws.
Level up favour with the syndicates
While not beholden to a faction like the Jedi and Sith, Kay Vess isn’t alone in the galaxy either. There are criminal factions interested in working with her but she has to prove her mettle and loyalty to gain their favour. To do so, you must run jobs for them which often include smuggling, stealing, and even murdering various targets.
There are four syndicates known in the Galaxy, each competing for fame and profit. You can raise your disposition with all of them at the same time but it’s difficult to manage. A job well done for one faction can be a thorn in the side for the other so raising your reputation with one side decreases it in the other.
The more a syndicate likes Kay Vess, the more benefits you’ll get from them. That includes freedom to roam their territory without them opening fire and unlocking better gear to buy or take. You can also get exclusive cosmetic items for every tier, expanding your collection of fun outfits to wear at all times.
Cycle between them as you explore the Galaxy far far away
These are just a few exciting activities waiting for you in Ubisoft’s latest release, Star Wars: Outlaws. It’s now available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Explore the vast plains of Cantonica, Tatooine, Toshara Moon, and more planets that the Jedi heroes have also explored before you. It’s a shame that Ubisoft held back on giving more activities like slot mini-games like Fire Joker from online casinos but there’s plenty enough to do already. Try all of them and have fun in Star Wars: Outlaws.
