From Ayezee to Drake: Uncovering the Truth Behind Celebrity Gaming

Celebrity Gaming

Celebrity gaming sponsorships have become increasingly common, with high-profile figures like casino streamer Ayezee and rapper Drake drawing attention to the trend. The growth has been a mix of realising the power of influencers, as well as having a more direct, measurable way to digitally advertise.

However, the legitimacy of these partnerships has come under scrutiny.

Ayezee’s Controversial Casino Streams

The Ayezee casino streamer is from Lebanon and grew a significant following since 2019. He’s known for a unique gaming style and, to some, an engaging personality.

The online casino streamer often features him gambling millions of dollars, which he claims to be legitimate. However, allegations have surfaced suggesting that Ayezee’s gambling may be fake. Some blockchain evidence has been produced to back up this claim.

The streamer frequently uses a public wallet address to prove the authenticity of his bets, but this has not quelled suspicions. Ayezee’s meteoric rise to fame and the sheer amount of money he wagers each stream have led many to question the validity of his gambling activities.

But, might there be something in it for the casino providers?

Drake’s Stake in Stake.com

In 2022, Canadian rapper Drake signed a staggering $100 million endorsement deal with cryptocurrency betting platform Stake.com. The partnership has seen Drake promote Stake heavily, with the platform even offering exclusive Drake-themed games and giveaways.

However, this high-profile collaboration has raised some eyebrows. Drake frequently makes bets hundreds of thousands of dollars, and in some bets, they even reached seven figures. Given his close partnership with the platform, many have questioned whether he’s really risking his own money, or whether it’s a marketing ploy. The truth remains unclear, but it highlights a rising problem with celebrity partnerships with such operators.

Influencers and iGaming Advertising

The use of celebrities and influencers to promote gambling has become a growing concern. Not only does it impact the young, vulnerable audiences, but it’s not entirely clear that it’s authentic. While it’s true that many wealthy people gamble, it appears that some are only gambling because they’re being paid to do it – and then talk about it.

A good example of this has been the many ex-UFC fighters and commentators who produce videos like “here are my picks for tonight’s event” or “who I’ve bet on for the PPV”, with an affiliated link to a betting partner. Not only does this come across as inauthentic, but it’s leading people to make similar bets which are not born from their own judgement.

Final Word – The Economics Behind It

Betting partnerships with influencers is rising because it’s extremely easy to gauge the economics of it. Sportsbrokers know their margins well (their long-term edge), and so they can very easily produce a profitable cost per acquisition. In other words, they know what one sign-up is worth. They’ve clearly seen that the many thousands of dollars paid to influencers results in a lot of sign-ups, and this is quickly paying off even if they’re not loyal customers. So, it’s unlikely we will see this trend go away unless it becomes a concern to policymakers.
