We’re getting a whole lot of great anime this spring season, with a variety of themes to explore. Whether it’s Witch Hat Atelier or your favorite rom-com or action show, we’re getting every bit of it.

But this hidden BL anime, Go for It, Nakamura!, might be exactly what you’re looking for. You ask why? Well, once you watch it, you’ll see just how fun it is.

Before that, let’s dive into a quick gist of it so you can decide whether to add it to your busy watch schedule or not.

What Is Go for It, Nakamura-Kun!! About? A Wholesome BL Story of Awkward First Love

Go for It, Nakamura-Kun!! is about, ordinary high school boy, Okuto Nakamura, who is super shy.

Despite feeling nervous around people, he really wishes to become friends with his classmate Aiki Hirose. He falls in love with Hirose the moment he sees him at the school entrance ceremony. Yes, girlies it’s love at first sight! Isn’t it the most romantic thing ever?

From the beginning of the show we get to see immense love of Nakamura towards Hirose, but because of his super introverted personality and poor social skills he is not even able to make friends with Hirose, despite trying. The only friend Nakamura has to share his feelings with is his beloved pet octopus.

Well, I don’t wanna give you spoilers but can I tell you that the first try of Nakamura at being close to Hirose was super duper awkward and unintentionally funny.

But the best part about Nakamura is he never gives up on trying and finding out ways to get close to Hirose. Even though he keeps failing, the bond between the two feels really wholesome.

Go For It, Nakamura! Episodes 1–2 Deliver Non-Stop Comedy and Chaos: (Contains Spoilers ⚠️)

As we discussed previously, the episode gets hilarious as we move on in the show. Even though we know Nakamura will again mess up with his confession but still you won’t realise or can predict how and when he will mess up, which it makes it 10x bingable and funnier There have been two hilarious and noteworthy moments in Episode 1.

In one scene, something very simple turns into chaos because Nakamura overthinks everything. When Hirose drops his handkerchief, Nakamura sees it as a chance to talk to him. But instead of a smooth moment, he ends up awkwardly stepping all over it, ruining the chance completely.

And trust me it sounds boring here but watching this scene play makes it super hilarious.

Later, there’s an even more awkward and funny scene where Nakamura and Hirose almost share a bonding moment. Their class thinks the octopuses in the sink are going to be used for cooking, so they try to “save” them at all cost.

Nakamura, who loves octopuses and even has one as a pet, picks one up, and Hirose copies him. But instead of a sweet moment, things go wrong when the octopus Hirose is holding sprays ink all over Nakamura, making the situation even more embarrassing.

Getting ink all over your face in front of your crush is definitely embarrassing for sure. We can feel you Nakamura.

Go For It, Nakamura! Embraces a Nostalgic Retro Aesthetic:

Despite being a funny show, the series also outshine with its vibrant animation. The art style feels very retro and nostalgic, very similar to our favourite old shows, remakes like Ranma 1/2 or Kowloon Generic Romance, but add more silly moments.

The absolute beautiful color pallets bring life to the world, while the detailed linework makes everything feel unique yet comforting to watch.

The best part is that we don’t usually get such high-quality and consistently well-animated romance anime, but this time, there has been no compromise. Of course, all the delays and waiting for the anime to release were worth it!
