This Cozy Isekai Might Become Your Next Comfort Watch… And You Won’t Expect Why
“A rare isekai, where the greatest power isn’t strength, but a love for books.”
If you’re bored with your regular Isekai show and on a journey to find your next comfort show that’s not only about the main protagonist getting isekaid to kill the demon lord but a realistic approach towards the story, then Ascendance of a Bookworm might be the one that can hook you.
Plot Overview:
The anime revolves around a book-loving (more like obsessed) girl who is reincarnated into a medieval fantasy world as Myne. But sadly, she is a physically weak child born into a poor family. In this world, books are incredibly rare and reserved only for nobles and the wealthy, which makes Myne really sad, but she never loses her hope.

Instead of gaining overpowered abilities, Myne’s only goal now is that she wants to read again and live her dream life.
When she realizes books are out of reach, she decides to create them from scratch (yes, a real book by her own hands), and this passion of reading and being surrounded by books makes the story move forward, where we get to see Myne struggle to fulfill her dream by getting support from some of the amazing characters in the show.
Ascendance of a Bookworm will makes us realise the importance of books:
The only reason I started watching the anime is that I love books, and reading is one of my favourite hobbies.
But what I don’t like is the same repetitive plot in the Isekai anime, where mc dies with regret and gets summoned to another world, being overpowered, and his only mission is to defeat the demon lord. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad or anything. It just gets boring after some time.

But this anime takes a totally different yet simplistic approach. Myne, who used to love books in her previous life, is isekaid into a different world where books are rare commodities. They are not easily accessible; only a few nobles can read or write. Hence, Myne struggles to get her hands on books.

But that doesn’t stop her from chasing her dreams. She decides to make her own book. Even though it sounds easy, it’s not that easy for her to make one, and that’s what makes us realise how granted we take books for.
Detailed World-Building and Realistic Fantasy Elements:
One of the best things about this show, even though it starts with a simple plot, it starts getting better each episode you move forward. The story explores class systems, where commoners struggle to survive while nobles control and conserve all knowledge and resources for themselves.

Not only nobles it also put lights on the aspects of business, religion, and societal hierarchy, making the world feel alive and believable. So, regardless how wholesome it seems this anime has way more rich world portrayals than a simple story of a girl, who loves books.
Animation, Music, and Overall Experience:
Well, about the animation, I won’t say it’s top notch quality, but I personally love it. Its picture book artstyle is what makes it really comfortable and cozy to watch.

The soft visuals and gentle soundtrack work as a charm to create a cozy atmosphere, making it an ideal comfort to watch anime during weekends.
The anime mostly focuses on narrative and character development, which ultimately becomes the strongest aspect of the series. Trust me, once you start watching it you will never look back.
Wrapping Up:
So, now the question comes: is it worth the time? Well, the answer is absolutely yes! Even if you are not a big fan of the cozy Isekai genre, just give it a shot, and if it lives up to your expectations, go ahead and binge it.

I hope it turns out to be one of your favourite watches this year, and the good news is, it has a second season as well! So no more waiting.
