The Best Browsers for Gaming in 2024

Whether you’re like me and enjoy playing games online from a desktop computer, or perhaps you prefer gaming online from a laptop, smartphone or tablet device instead of from a console or handheld gaming device, and you want to know which web browsers are best for playing games, you’ve come to the right place.

I’ve tested several leading web browsers across multiple devices and have played several types of games to find out which are the best browsers for gaming. Let’s dive straight in to find out which ones came out on top.

Web browsers allow us to visit websites and do everything from working and playing games to banking, shopping, and communicating with others.

The web pages that we visit are getting bigger with more ads, videos, images, and so much other content trying to load when we land on the homepage, so it’s important to have an efficient web browser that can quickly load web pages, its features and any services it offers.

According to statistics, the most popular web browser with the biggest market share in most regions in 2023 was Google Chrome, which some of you may not be surprised by. Let’s take a quick look at which browsers were the most popular last year:

  • Google Chrome – 63.56%
  • Safari – 19.84%
  • Microsoft Edge – 5.43%
  • Mozilla Firefox – 2.95%
  • Opera – 2.74%

This was followed by Samsung Internet (2.32%), UC Browser (0.98%), Android (0.54%), QQ Browser (0.3%), and other web browsers (1.34%).

Although Google Chrome was the most popular web browser last year, some players reported that it wasn’t the best for gaming, whereas others agreed that it was the best browser for playing their favourite games.

I prefer using Chrome to play triple-A video games, cutting-edge live dealer games, and feature-rich online slots from award-winning providers, and I didn’t encounter any problems with latency or annoying lagging/buffering issues.

However, I have excellent internet speeds at home, which is a big help.

I tried most of the other web browsers mentioned above and found them all capable of handling the games I play.

I’ve also heard from other gamers who spend hours online that they prefer OperaGX, Wave Browser, Firefox, or Edge. Each person is different in terms of what they prefer, so what might work well for someone else may not work so well for you.

Other players have said that Firefox has superfast speeds that enable them to play their favourite games with no interruptions, while others have said it is one of the worst for playing games online, so it’s hard to say which web browser is truly the best for gaming.

Other popular web browsers that are also reliable when playing certain games are Yandex, Epic Browser, Maxthon, Arc Browser, and Vivaldi, to name a few.

What are the main factors that make web browsers stand out from the crowd in terms of performance?

Speed is one of the most important factors people consider when choosing which web browser to use, and this is one of the reasons why a growing number of players choose the OperaGX browser to play their favourite online games.

It boasts a special feature called GX Control, which basically enables users to allocate more of their preferred device’s resources to specific areas to run the game smoothly. It essentially limits the browser’s RAM and CPU usage.

If you want a web browser that’s highly customizable and great for gaming, the Wave Browser might be the better option for you.

Some web browsers are naturally better at blocking ads and other annoying pop ups that cause browsers to run slow, and some come with enhanced loading speeds that make even the more graphically demanding triple-a titles run much smoother.

What browser should you choose for gaming?

Before choosing a web browser, consider what games you will be playing more than others. For example, if you want to play simpler games, including ‘puzzlers’ like Sudoku, crosswords, word searches, and other similar games, then pretty much any web browser will do.

However, if you’re going to be playing hit titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2, Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty, Final Fantasy XV, The Witcher 3, Fortnite, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, or Resident Evil 4, then you may want to go for a more reliable browser that’s well-known for handling games like this.

Final thoughts

Web browsers are generally easy to use, no matter which one you decide to go for, but they can also take a little getting used to, especially if you have only used one browser for the past five or ten years.

Before deciding which web browser would be best, remember to read the reviews on today’s most reputable tech review sites and then compare the reviews of several browsers.
