City: The Animation – The Best Kind of Brain Rot You’ll Ever Watch

“Normal? In this city? Forget about it!”

Tired of long, emotional shoujo anime that tear your heart apart? Then this perfect comedy anime will help put your emotions back in place.

If I had to describe this anime in one word, I would say it’s simply illogical. You won’t find any logical statements or actions performed by the characters in this show.

If you try to make sense of it, sorry to say, you won’t succeed. But if you just want to enjoy this show, switch your brain off, embrace the chaos, and don’t ask questions.

And did I mention the animation? It’s simply majestic, something you rarely see in a decade, and unlike anything you’ve ever experienced, I bet.

It is one of the most unique animations released so far. If you love charismatic visuals that stick in your mind forever, just go for it, you’ll devour every second of it.

Plot Overview:

As said, there’s nothing logical or sensible in the anime, it’s just a story about random folks living their life but trust me they are not average living people. They fill life with chaos, it’s full of absurdity.

You can never predict or guess what will happen next and you will look at the screen after finishing the episode, like what just happened in the happiest way possible.

As for the story, it revolves around college girls, quirky townsfolk, and the bizarre events that are occurring in their neighborhood on a daily basis.

A word of warning: don’t watch this anime at night, because your brain won’t be able to keep up with the pace. You need a fresh and active mind to savour every moment in the anime.

What Makes It so fun to watch?

Well, if you enjoy typical style comedy anime like Gintama and Grand Blue and they are pretty good ones mind you, then you won’t be much impressed with the series.

But it’s more of a sudden attack gag show. What do I mean by that? Within each episode, there are multiple fun segments.

Sometimes it’s wholesome daily life, but then suddenly, something completely illogical hits you out of nowhere, and trust me, it may not sound fun, but it really is. It’s like scrolling through a fun comical panel and enjoying every bit of it.

Characters: Walking Memes:

Best story? No, the characters make this anime worth watching. This series brings out every quirky trait of each individual and combines them so well that you can’t just love one character. None of them overshadow the others, each has their own chaotic way of adding fun to the series.

There isn’t a definite main character in the series, as every character has their own plotline. But one of main ones is Midori, a super energetic girl, who lives her life to the fullest.

She’s a bit mischievous, which helps bring fun moments to every episode. On the other hand, Mei has a calming demeanor as compared to Midori. She often gets trapped in her antics bringing chaos in every moment.

There’s also a chef, his son and also a mangaka and his editor. They’re all really fun to watch and add an extra layer of comedy to every scene.

Why You Should Binge It:

If you’re looking for an anime with deep insights, sorry to say this won’t fancy you. But if you want something to turn your brain off and just enjoy the ride, City: The Animation is the perfect watch for you.

It’s binge able, endlessly funny, and the kind of show you can rewatch whenever you need a quick and easy laugh. In short, the anime feels more like comfort junk food.

Who Should Watch It?

This anime is for you if the points below tick all your boxes:

  • You love random, unpredictable humor that catches you off guard.
  • You enjoy slice-of-life with a twist, where the ordinary becomes extraordinary.
  • You’re looking for a lighthearted binge after watching heavy, emotional shows.
  • You live for meme-worthy characters and chaotic energy.
  • If you nodded at any, or all, of these, then just go watch it without a second thought.
