MM2 weapon rarity tiers explained for traders

MM2 weapons

Murder Mystery 2 labels every knife and gun with a rarity tier, and those labels drive most trading conversations in the game. They are useful, and they are also the source of a lot of bad trades.

The ladder, from the bottom up

MM2 sorts weapons into Common, Uncommon, Rare, Legendary, Godly, Ancient and Unique. Moving up the list means the weapon was harder to obtain and that fewer of them are in circulation. Reading that ladder against real numbers helps, and the mm2 shop shows what each tier is actually trading at rather than what the labels imply.

Godly is the tier most trading revolves around. It is where the recognisable items sit and where the majority of serious trades happen. Ancient sits above it and appears far less often, with a much thinner market behind it.

What tier does not tell you

Tier describes how a weapon entered the game. It says nothing about how many players want it now. Two Godlies can carry the same label and behave completely differently, because one is still being chased and the other has quietly fallen out of use.

A tier is a floor. It is not a price.

Availability does the heavy lifting

Weapons that hold their position are usually the ones that can no longer be obtained. When a route into the game closes, supply freezes at whatever players already hold.

Weapons that remain obtainable compete with new supply arriving continuously, and that puts a ceiling on where they can go.

Higher tier does not mean easier to trade

There is a practical trade-off as you move up. Higher-tier weapons have fewer owners, which means fewer players hold something comparable to swap against. A mid-tier item with wide demand can change hands in minutes, while a top-tier item can sit for days waiting for the right counterparty.

Liquidity and value are separate things, and new traders regularly confuse the two.

Chroma sits outside the ladder

Some Godlies exist in Chroma versions with a cycling colour finish. These are separate items with their own supply and demand, and they do not trade at the same level as the standard version. When someone offers “a Godly”, establish which one they mean before going further.

Reading a trade properly

  • Confirm the exact weapon name, not just the tier
  • Check whether it is standard or Chroma
  • Establish whether it can still be obtained in game
  • Compare against current listings rather than an old value list
  • Treat knives and guns as separate markets

Bottom line

Rarity tiers are a starting framework and nothing more. Availability and demand decide what a weapon is worth, and Chroma variants sit apart from their standard counterparts entirely.

FAQ

What are the rarity tiers in MM2?

Common, Uncommon, Rare, Legendary, Godly, Ancient and Unique. Godly is where most trading activity concentrates, with Ancient above it and appearing much less frequently.

Is every Godly worth the same?

No. Godly describes how the weapon was obtained, not current demand. Two Godlies can sit at very different levels depending on availability and player interest.

What makes a Chroma different from a normal Godly?

A Chroma has a cycling colour finish and its own separate supply. It is treated as a distinct item in trading and does not carry the same value as the standard version.

How do I find out what a weapon is currently worth?

Compare it against what is listed right now. Tier labels and older value lists both lag behind actual trading activity in the game.

Do knives and guns hold value differently?

They trade as separate markets. Demand for knives is generally broader, though specific guns can outperform depending on availability and interest.
