Retro ‘Justice League’ Trailer is a Fan Made Masterpiece

by Antonia Haynes

The DC Fandome Event is only a day away so it seems like a good time to highlight one of the coolest fan made trailers out there at the moment. YouTuber AListProductions has re-imagined the Justice League by creating a retro trailer with clips from the older DC Universe films and television series. The end result is an awesome look at what could have been had a Justice League movie happened back in the day.

The fan trailer features clips from media spanning decades, from the Wonder Woman television series and the Christopher Reeve Superman films- both of which were around in the 70’s- to the Tim Burton Batman films of the late 80’s and the short lived The Flash television series of the early 90’s. The trailer teams up some of the most iconic actors who took on the infamous DC roles: the late, great Christopher Reeve as Superman, Michael Keaton as Batman, Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman, John Wesley Shipp as The Flash, Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor and Jack Nicholson as The Joker. There’s even a nice little inclusion of Helen Slater in the poorly received 1984 film Supergirl.  The trailer ends with a fictional release date of Summer 1993. I would have only been a one year old at this time but I can tell I would have been fan nonetheless.

AListProductions goes all out with the editing in this brilliant piece of fan content. John William’s classic Superman theme blends effortlessly with Danny Elfman’s Batman theme as the trailer opens alongside some retro Warner Brothers logos. Clips from across the decades are perfectly put together to create a story that brings the classic characters together to fight Lex Luthor and The Joker. Audio and footage from around 14 different films and television shows are used, including use of the 2006 Richard Donner Cut of the 1980 film Superman II as well as a cheeky inclusion of DC’s rivals Marvel with the use of the 2019 film Spider-Man: Far From Home.

This is in all honestly one of the best fan trailers I have seen in a while (and I look through a LOT of fan made content). I take pride in highlighting awesome fan content in this blog so if you’ve made it this far, I would implore you to have a look at more great content on AListProductions social media accounts as well as to check out the trailer below. The trailer has already received likes and shares from Lynda Carter and John Wesley Shipp on Twitter so let’s try and get even more love for AListProductions by sharing this fantastic content.
