‘Resident Evil’ Expert Spends Years Creating a Crazily Detailed Timeline of the Entire Series

Capcom’s zombie horror video game series Resident Evil has its fair share of hard-core, devoted fans but none compare to one fan who goes by the name of TheBatMan online. TheBatMan is a hugely respected individual within the Resident Evil fandom and for good reason. The super fan and Resident Evil expert has spent the last ten years of their life writing, editing and revising an insanely comprehensive chronology of the events of the Resident Evil series. Now that is impressive.

The BatMan is Co-Founder of a podcast simply known as The Resident Evil Podcast- a community focused fan podcast to engage with likeminded fans about the series. The Resident Evil Podcast also has its own website where you can listen to all of the podcasts on various platforms as well as join a Discord server if you want to chat with other members of the community. Other content such as fanfiction and editorials can be found on the site.  But one of the most impressive features of The Resident Evil podcast is TheBatMan’s complete timeline of the Resident Evil mythology.

Speaking with Eurogamer in an interview-which I will link here– TheBatMan revealed that his 2,700 page long behemoth of a chronology has taken him over ten years to complete, starting from scratch back in 2009 after finding more content on the games narrative from Japanese supplement texts to the games. During his creation of the timeline he even came across various inconsistencies’ (to be expected with a game lore that began way back in the 90’s), a testament to the amount of effort and painstaking research that must have gone into this project.

I absolutely love when fans take their passions to the next level by creating content such as this. TheBatMan has spent years and likely a fair amount of time and effort working on the chronology, all for the passion that he feels for the Resident Evil series. This is one of the reasons why I’m a big fan of games and fan made content. Video games can inspire people to create, to research and to establish communities based on their shared love. TheBatMan’s work is great example of the incredible things that passionate, talented and enthusiastic fans can do.

If you would like to know more about TheBatMan and The Resident Evil Podcast– perhaps even join their Discord if you’re a big fan of the series too- I have included links to the podcast website and TheBatMan’s Twitter above.
