24 Hour Live Stream for ‘Pokémon Sword and Shield’ Reveals Galarian Ponyta

Galarian Ponyta

The Pokémon Company recently held a 24 hour live stream for the upcoming Pokémon game, Pokémon Sword and Shield. The live stream was set up in a style which emulates a nature documentary, with the camera focusing on a wooded area as various noises and rustles can be heard. The forest setting is a new area from Sword and Shield’s Galar region, the Glimwood Tangle Forest. It is definitely a pretty area that looks like it will be interesting to explore in the game. However, despite the stream being so lengthy only one new Pokémon is actually revealed. The others that we see are ones that have already been confirmed and see beforehand.

The Glimwood Tangle Forest will be a new location in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Pikachu is the first Pokémon that we see on the live stream, not that surprising considering that Pikachu is the mascot for the franchise.  There are some appearances from other Pokémon such as Phantump, Morelull and Impidimp. Following various teases such as some faint galloping, the big reveal of the stream was the Galarian Ponyta. Ponyta is an original generation one Pokémon and the Galarian version is admittedly incredibly adorable. Rather than a flame mane, Galarian Ponyta has a pastel cotton candy styled mane, a purple unicorn horn, purple hooves, a white coat and puffy pink hoof fluff. Those are not words I never thought I would write but I’m kind of glad I got the opportunity to. Galarian Ponyta is reminiscent of the My Little Pony ponies due to the bright colors, stylish mane and general cuteness.

Japanese magazine Famitsu reveals some new details for Shield exclusive Galarian Ponyta and Sword exclusive Sirfetch’d

More info about Galarian Ponyta and Sirfetch’d has since been released in Japanese publication Famitsu. translates some of the article and it reveals that Galarian Ponyta will be a Shield exclusive whilst Sirfetch’d will be a Sword exclusive. There is also a move for Ponyta revealed called Pastel Veil. The move can heal allies and stop them from being poisoned.

The Galarian Ponyta’s were seen towards the end of the live stream. Their manes begin to glow when they nuzzle one another, which is just too adorable.

The lack of any other new Pokémon, no game play and no other information has left some fans feeling a little disappointed by the live stream. There isn’t much longer to wait to see what Sword and Shield will have to offer though. The game releases for the Nintendo Switch on November 15th 2019.

It’s absolutely adorable! It still feels strange that its typing is Psychic rather than Fairy, though. Maybe Galarian Rapidash will change to Fairy typing (or become a pegasus and be Fairy/Flying!)

I agree, I was definitely expecting a Fairy type when I first saw it. I love the idea of a Fairy Pegasus Rapidash. Definitely keeping my fingers crossed for that!!
