Limited ‘Pokémon Red and Blue’ vinyl now available because why not

Pokemon Vinyl

This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the Pokémon franchise, and as such Nintendo has big plans for the celebration. Along with Pokken Tournament releasing on the Wii U in March, the company has announced a Nintendo 3DS bundle shipping with Gameboy games Pokemon Red and Blue pre-installed. The Pokemon Trading Card Game is also getting a new expansion, and the series also has a spot booked during Sunday’s Super Bowl. And let’s not forget Pokémon Go!

If that wasn’t enough, fans of the series will be delighted to know they can now purchase a vinyl copy of Junichi Masuda’s memorable soundtrack as part of a strictly limited pressing. Moonshake Records is pressing the classic soundtrack on red and white swirled wax with an album cover that recalls The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Only 500 copies have been made, which are now shipping from Turntable Lab. The $49.95 record includes the full score from the classic Game Boy games and the original Pokémon anime’s theme song.

After twenty years, the popularity of Pokemon shows no signs of slowing. All we need now is a new game released on the home console!

Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow will be re-released as a digital download for the Nintendo 3DS on February 27, 2016.
