Today, Nintendo released a brief 8-minute showcase focusing on games from the Nintendo publishing and development partners. As the title suggests, the showcase didn’t go into a huge amount of detail as we would get in a normal Nintendo Direct but we did get some announcements that I’m going to summarise in this micro look at the mini Nintendo Direct.
Cadence of Hyrule DLC
New songs, new characters, and new additions to the story will be coming soon to Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer Feat. The Legend of Zelda. The rhythm game will have three separate DLC packs: a character pack (pack one) featuring new characters like Shadow Link and Shadow Zelda, a melody pack (pack two) with 39 new songs and a story specific pack (pack three) entitled “Symphony of the Mask” which will also include a new map and new accompanying songs.
DLC Pack 1: Character Pack is available today, July 20th. DLC Packs Two and Three will be available before the end of October and a Season Pass with some additional costumes will also launch later today. A complete version of the game with all the DLC will also be coming to the Nintendo Switch on October 23rd.
Rogue Company- Announcement Trailer
Rogue Company is an online, multiplayer third-person shooter from developers Hi-Rez Studios. The game will feature competitive and casual game modes and will feature a variety of weapons at your disposal. The game will be available to play across various platforms and will also support motion-controlled aiming. More content and information on various in-game skins, maps, and more will be revealed later on today, July 20th.
WWE 2K Battlegrounds: Announcement
The next game in the wrestling video game franchise will be arriving on the Nintendo Switch- as well as other various gaming platforms- later this year. Not much was shown in the direct other than some multiplayer battling. The in-game character designs are unique and definitely different from what is expected from wrestling titles so this could turn out to be a fun one. No matter how WWE 2K Battlegrounds plays out, it is unlikely to ever be as bad as its predecessor: the buggy mess that was WWE 2K20. WWE 2K Battlegrounds is due for release on September 18th, 2020.
Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster: Announcement
A remaster of the classic Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne was revealed to be released on the Nintendo Switch and the PlayStation 4 in the Spring of 2021. The post-apocalyptic game- from developers ATLUS games- received great critical success following its original release back in 2003 as well as a moderate commercial success too. The remake announcement was somewhat unexpected but a joyful one for fans of the series. Fans of the game are sure to love the final announcement of the mini Direct too…
Shin Megami Tensei V
A direct sequel and the next installment in the franchise, Shin Megami Tensei V was revealed following the announcement of the Nocturne HD Remaster. The game will be a role-playing game, in the same vein as the other titles in the series. Classic gameplay features will be returning in regards to raising and fusing demons as well as some new, contemporary elements. The sequel will be released at some point next year, in 2021.
That’s all we got for this Nintendo Direct Mini and whilst the content was pretty slim, the remaster and sequel for the Shin Megami Tensei games were a nice surprise. The other announcements were all okay too- the Cadence of Hyrule DLC was the highlight for me.
