Incredible Wood Art Craftsman Brings Pop Culture to Life Through His Work

I’ve always been in awe of sculptors for as long as I can remember as it seems like such an incredible form of art that needs a great deal of talent, skill and craftsmanship. A particularly intricate sculpting form of art is that of wood art, though it rarely gets the attention it deserves in this day and age. One artist is trying their best to rectify that with a wealth of marvellous pop culture themed wood sculptures.

The artist in question is Duy Tran, a 22 year old whose goal is to bring the Vietnamese art form that is wood art to a broader demographic with his carvings of characters and scenes from anime, manga, video games and more. Tran is Vietnamese himself and on the official website for his work, it states that wood crafting is a family business as Tran’s father is “known as one of the greatest masters of Vietnamese sculpture and a promoter of the modernization of the wood art.”  Tran continues his family business with some amazing wood carvings from all kinds of pop culture franchises from anime- like Attack on Titan and Dragonball Z– , Marvel, DC- such as Batman- and video games like characters such as DOOM Guy from DOOM Eternal and Yasuo from League of Legends. The attention to detail is absolutely beautiful, with the intricate level of detailing showed off in videos from Tran’s YouTube channel such as the below video of the process of creating a wooden sculpture of Godzilla and King Kong.

It is almost mesmerising to watch these being made. The craft of wood art is absolutely incredible and being able to watch such a craftsman at work is astonishing. Not only is Tran creating amazing art through his work, he is also highlighting his Vietnamese heritage and continuing his family legacy. Impressive doesn’t quite seem like a strong enough word to cover his achievements.

Make sure to check out Tran on his various social media platforms: Online shop, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Reddit and Patreon.
