Contra: The Board Game is An Actual Thing and It’s Coming Next Year

Board games are not going out of style anytime soon and it seems that more and more gaming franchises are lending themselves to the tabletop platform. Contra- the classic run and gun shooting Konami game from 1987- is the latest video game to make the board game leap. In doing this, Contra joins the ranks of the video games such as Fallout, Resident Evil, and Sid Meier’s Civilization– all of which have popular board game adaptations.

Blacklist Games and Kess Co are the companies tasked with bringing Contra: The Board Game to life. The game will be for up to four players and will focus on playing as a Contra commando to stop the Red Falcon Army, the alien force from the video game. The player can choose from one of four heroes to play as Sweet Manson, Lucia LCR-o, and of course the main heroes from the game Bill Rizer and Lance Bean.

The game is said to last from anywhere between 45 and 120 minutes with interchangeable boards, eight mini-figures and a classic dice and card gameplay style. You can pre-order the game from July 30th so if you’re a fan of board games, video games, or -of course -video game themed board games, you might want to check it out. Oh, and the case looks like an NES cartridge. It’s the little things that make all the difference.
