Quirky Indie Game ‘BugSnax’ Will Be Free on the PlayStation 5 for PS Plus Subscribers at Launch

What’s better than a video game that allows you to capture creatures that are adorable part bug, part snack concoctions? How about a free video game that allows you to catch adorable bug/snack creatures? Well, as long as you have a PlayStation Plus subscription and you’re getting yourself a PlayStation 5 on launch in November.

Bugsnax (I will never stop loving that name) is an indie game coming to the PlayStation 5 that caught the eyes of gamers everywhere when it was announced back in June in Sony’s PlayStation 5 reveal event. We all found ourselves transfixed with many aspects of the peculiar and colourful world of Bugsnax, such as its bizarre yet enticing plot, amazing and adorable designs for the titular hybrid critters and that insanely catchy theme song “It’s Bugsnax!” by British indie group Kero Kero Bonito. Try getting it out of your head once you’ve given it a listen.

Being a release title for the next generation of PlayStation console, Bugsnax looked as though it had gained enough momentum to attract a fair amount of players when it is released on November 12th,  the release date of the PS5 itself. If you do manage to get your hands on a PlayStation 5 on release and have a subscription (or are planning to get one) to PlayStation Plus, then you won’t even have to pay for the game. The monthly free games have been a massive draw for those with a PS Plus subscription. The games seem to have gotten progressively bigger as the years have gone by, with titles like Until Dawn, The Last of Us: Remastered and Uncharted 4 being released for free at different times. But following the worldwide success of the indie game Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout after its free release in August, it looks to be a great platform for budding game developers to get their work out to the world on a large scale. It looks like Bugsnax is going down the same route as Fall Guys in this way and I only hope that it pays off in the same way as it does look like a genuinely creative, imaginative and fun game made by a talented and passionate team of indie developers. If you’re not getting the PlayStation 5 immediately- or at all- then there are still two games that will be free for all PS Plus subscribers on both generations of consoles: Middle-earth: Shadow of War and Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition. So no matter whether you’re upgrading to next gen or not, you’re still getting some cool games for free if you have a subscription.
