BTS engaged in another bizarre yet hilarious challenge and put on yet another brilliant performance in the latest episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which the band are taking over this week. These boys can do no wrong.
The group took on the “Zoom Olympics” with Jimmy, a series of random challenges that can be performed via the video communication system Zoom (which I’m sure everyone is at least familiar with since the whole global pandemic and lockdown situation). The challenges involved contestants popping their head in and out of the frame as fast as they could (I could feel the whiplash just watching that one), stacking as many television remotes as possible in ten seconds and then finally- and quite possibly the most random of all- shaking picks out of an acoustic guitar. I know it is always hard to make a judgement on someone’s character without actually knowing them but all of the BTS members seem so down to earth and it shows even more so in games like this. None of them are afraid of making idiots out of themselves and it is refreshing to see a band of global superstars able to poke fun at themselves with ease. Of course, I’m sure some will think this is just the ranting of a fangirl with anime hearts in her eyes but I would urge you to watch some of their interviews and decide for yourself. I’m not denying the anime hearts thing though.
BTS also performed their song “Mikrokosmos” from their 2019 album “Map of the Soul: Persona”. Again, the difference in all of their Tonight Show performances has been one of the best things about their takeover. They have perfectly demonstrated their versatility as a group and their willingness and ability to take on any genre. “Mikrokosmos” is a softer K-Pop song entirely in Korean and it is one of my favourites. I actually only found it recently when looking through BTS’s music catalogue and it has quickly become one of the songs I find myself coming back to. Named after the Greek word for microcosm- and the Korean version translates to the same- “Mikrokosmos” is a perfect pop tune with excellent vocals and an uplifting tone. Fans of BTS’s softer pop tracks are sure to enjoy this one.
The group also recently lent their vocals to a remix of the song the viral Tik Tok song” Savage Love” by New Zealand music producer Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo. Check out “Savage Love” (Laxed- Siren Beat) [BTS Remix] below! But I warn you, it does involve the BTS baby Jungkook swearing. I don’t know whether to be proud or appalled.
More on the BTS Tonight Show Takeover and their upcoming album BE soon.
