Artist and Animator Creates Amazing Anime Character Pixel Art

by Antonia Haynes

It’s always interesting to stumble upon amazing creators whilst pursuing social media and that’s exactly what happened with the content that I am writing about today from Twitter user ioruko. ioruko is an artist , animator, and self-proclaimed “gamedev potato” who does some incredible artwork, including pixel art. Their recent creation of Game Boy style portraits for various anime-styled characters caught my eye when I was scrolling on Twitter and I felt it was definitely worth writing on.

ioruko created four pixelated art versions of characters from anime franchises: Joker from the Persona video games, vocaloid sensation Hatsune Miku- protagonist of the Ghost in the Shell series Kusanagi Motoko and the female version of Byleth from the most recent Fire Emblem game: Fire Emblem: Three Houses. These pixel art pieces are intended to replicate the portraits that you would get in various games for the old Nintendo Game Boy.  The art pieces are also perfectly animated, representing each character fantastically. From Joker’s red glowing eye to Miku’s sparkly background, it is the little details that create an extra burst of personality within the artwork.  ioruko manages to create awesomely unique fan art via the medium of pixel art whilst being true to the game console that the work is based upon. I would definitely suggest checking out more of their brilliant work on the links below!
