The popularity of the 2018 indie game Among Us has skyrocketed as of late due to YouTubers and Twitch streamers everywhere picking up on the trend. I’ve said it before and I will say it again: when games get this popular, the fan content is not far behind. Among Us is no exception and there has been a ton of fan made content of all kinds for the game. From catchy songs to plushies (there are also official Crewmate plushies from indie developers Inner Sloth) to LEGO animations and even to custom made mood lights, Among Us is capturing the creativity of many a gamer and creator worldwide. I personally love the fan made Among Us death animations that have been doing the rounds on YouTube, so let’s take a look.
YouTuber SuperWiiBros08 has made one of the more dynamic animations based on memes (because this is the Internet, let us not forget). These ones caught my eye just by how fluid their animation is and how well they work. None of these would seem out of place in the game, even with their heavy Internet style of humour. My favourite of these is the last one, where the Monsters Inc theme is played so loudly it causes a crewmate to explode. I laughed a lot because I am a child. SuperWiiBros08 also made a second batch of funny Among Us kill animations based on memes, which is equally funny. They reference some video games in this one too, such as Five Nights at Freddy’s, Overwatch and Pokémon. I am a fan of the Uno Reverse card one though. It just works.
Other YouTube channels have tried their hand at making fan made kill animations for Among Us, including YouTuber Tobbby who made a short video of Team Fortress 2 themed kill animations. I like the little addition of the kills in the top right hand corner of screen and the animation is fantastically done. Creator MashProTato also made some hilarious animations which are so close in style to the actual game that you’d be forgiven for thinking they were real. Another really creative take on the Among Us kills is from YouTuber JzBoy– who was inspired by MashProTato. JzBoy flips the idea on its head with their video “Among Us but you can’t kill me”, showing various animations of the killer getting Uno reversed in bizarrely funny ways every time they try to kill the crewmate. These are so creative and such a clever way to take an established idea and turn it on its head.
There is so much fantastic Among Us fan content out there so make sure to check it out if you are a fan of the game.
