When we ask our team what their favorite SNES games are, Chrono Trigger is usually mentioned on the top five. If you ask me, Chrono Trigger is the best game on the system and, in my opinion, Square Enix’s greatest accomplishment. While games like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest are popular enough to be household names, Chrono Trigger features one of the greatest stories in any video game, with so many twists and turns in the plot, few, if any, of which are telegraphed ahead of their reveal. It also has a soundtrack that has been hailed as one of the best ever made and now a five-disc, 75-track album has been released that pays tribute to its legacy.
The team behind 2013’s acclaimed Secret of Mana tribute album: Spectrum of Mana has just released their highly-anticipated tribute to Chrono Trigger, which features over 200 artists within VGM communities. Organized by veteran game industry animator and visual artist Nate Horsfall, the project represents two years of dedicated work from hundreds of artists such as Dwelling of Duels and OverClocked ReMix, who re-imagine the music originally composed by Yasunori Mitsuda, Nobuo Uematsu, and Noriko Matsueda.
